Did you know today’s #NationalFastFoodDay ? To celebrate, today’s #ChucoThrowbackThursday features one of our most iconic El Paso fast food joints– you guessed it, Chico’s Tacos.
Local boxing promoter Joe Mora founded the first location on Alameda Ave in South Central on July 4, 1953. When he first opened, the sauce-soaked rolled tacos definitely raised some eyebrows, but he was determined. 14 years after opening, Chico’s finally added a second location, and today, with several locations open around town, the business is still family-run, and has kept the traditions alive. They still only accept cash, and the menu has remained the same as well.
The restaurant has been featured in several TV shows and magazines, including Texas Monthly and the Cooking Channel with El Paso native chef Aaron Sanchez.
